Lesotho 2 Ramabanta to Semonkong is the first big day of cycling. It is a bit intimidating as it goes over Baboons Pass. Baboons Pass is also known as car breaker, and when they say car they mean 4X4’s. Depending on the weather on or before it could mean a multi hour walk / carry. Quoting Tracks4Africa “The pass is approximately 26km and can be done under 20 hours of driving in good circumstances.“.
I would like to attempt it as it looks quite interesting and scenic. I will make the final decision when I am in Ramabanta.
The alternative is to go all the way to Semonkong on the tar road. I will also speak with the locals to see what they recommend.
I will also decide depending on the day if I go via the Maletsunyane falls on the way to Semonkong, or alternatively, have a rest day in Semonkong and do some relaxing and hiking around the falls.
It is important to ensure I stock up for at least two days as the next stage is very remote with no big towns on the way.
